Compressed Earth Brick is an very intriguing material: strong, sustainable, local, easy to work with and almost free. To gain some experience with working with it we’ve been building a manual CEB press using the Open Source Resilient Living design.
In an attempt to show it could be done, our press is almost entirely build from scrap metal using only basic tools: a cheap angle grinder, an ancient arc welder and some drills.
It’s not quite working yet in that we’re having some issues with the eject mechanism due to the fit between the guide rods and tubes (and old car exhaust) not being tight enough. We’re current replacing this with some new, tighter fitting new metal parts.
We’ll post details of the construction process here when we have these issues sorted out.
